TIGANOKINISI

30 July - 1 August

The Tiganokinisi programme was developed and is being implemented by AKTI Project and Research Centre in collaboration with the Unit for Education for the Environment and Sustainable Development (EESD) and is under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth.

Tiganokinisi is a circular, community-based environmental education programme which transforms used cooking oil (UCO) from a household waste into a valuable resource. Over 540 schools, participate in the programme as UCO collection hubs. AKTI collects and sells UCO to biodiesel refineries and all the proceeds return to schools to be invested in green actions. More than 700,000 euro have funded until now more than 1200 green infrastructure in participating schools.

The Tiganokinisi Caravan, the mobile experimental unit, offers interactive experiments showcasing a wide range of environmental technologies; the process of converting UCO into biodiesel, water and energy-saving solutions, renewable energy sources, and applied composting techniques.
