JOSS STONE (UK)
Grammy-winning recording artist Joss Stone has released seven albums, sold more than 14 million records, and has shared the stage with names such as James Brown, Stevie Wonder, and Herbie Hancock (among many others). She has recently released a new album called "Water for Your Soul" and has embarked on a total world tour, which includes our Fengaros Main Stage!
PAVLOS PAVLIDIS & B-MOVIES (GR)
Pavlos Pavlidis & B-Movies are travelling all through Greece and Cyprus to present a high-powered live set which draws songs from his latest album (released in April 2016) but also from the beloved songwriter’s entire musical journey through the years, even including songs by the highly-acclaimed Xylina Spathia. The B-Movies are: Tolis Deliyiannis (bass), Alekos Spanides (drums), Orestes Benekas (keys) and Sakis Azas (el. guitar).
ELECTRIC LITANY (UK)
Electric Litany are a band that refuses to be conform to expectations, since their formation in 2007. United by an affinity for post-rock, synth pop and electronica, they drew the attention of Alan Parsons, who produced their second album. In 2015 they began performing in Syntagm square in a stance against austerity, a day later - they shared the stage with The Prodigy in Greece's most renowned music festival, in 2016 - they will join us at our Main Stage on Sunday right before their "Winter EP" is set for release.
LARRY GUS (GR)
Larry Gus is Greek musician Panagiotis Melidis. His first proper solo release, Stitches, appeared in 2009 on the Greek label Cast-A-Blast. Following a slew of compilation appearances, remixes, and online tracks, Melidis signed with DFA and released Silent Congas digitally in 2012, following it up with Years Not Living in 2013. He issued his third LP, the still complex but less sample-based I Need New Eyes, in 2015. His music encompasses everything from Afrobeat to hip-hop, heavily layered vocals, creating a "woozy, half-sick, half-euphoric feeling".
SOTIRES (GR)
Sotires is a brand new band which features Greek singer / violinist Fotis Siotas known from his various collaborations with songwriters in the likes of Thanasis Papakonstantinou, Sokratis Malamas and Alkinoos Ioannides. Their music flirts with Greek tradition, psychedelic rock, african beats, punk and more, creating a sound that is completely their own. The band consists of Fotis Siotas on vocals and violin , Lefteris Moumtzis on electric bass and vocals, Kostas Pantelis on electric guitar and Vasilis Baharides on drums.
MANOLAKIS / SPYRIDAKIS/ PAPATZANIS (GR)
Three established musicians who belong in the younger generation of the Cretan music idiom performers and bridge the gaps between old tradition and modern expression. Having their musical knowledge rooted well within old "treasures", they attempt to paint a picture of yesterday's and today's Cretan music, through classic traditional songs as well as their own compositions.
HARRIS LAMBRAKIS QUARTET (GR)
Harris Lambrakis Quartet will be presenting their second album called "Meteora". The album's nine songs were composed by Harris Lambrakis, Nikos Sidirokastritis and Dimitris Theocharis, who, along with Dimitris Tsekouras make up the line up which will be performing at Fengaros 2016.
BLACK ANIS (CY)
BLACK ANIS is a five-piece band, formed in Nicosia in January 2016. Their music is a blend of blues/rock, drawing influences from southern rock and incorporating elements from 90s trip-hop, evident in their use of effects and high-powered on stage presence. The band features Orestis Savva and Kyriakos Xristodoulides on electric guitars, bassist Xanthos Pattichis, drummer Frixos Protopapas, and Adriana Di Antonio on vocals. Their first single, Don't Leave Me, was released online in May 2016 and is now available on YouTube.
SANDY BROUR (CY)
Sandy Brour were formed in Spring 2012 with a lot of love. Whether they're playing in a small cafe, a beautiful garden, on a hill, in the woods or a Main Stage, the result is always the same. Authentic, erotic greek songs with a latin, jazz and blues mood, in the rhythms of tango, bossa nova, swing and bolero, performed by classical guitars, clarinet, santouri, congas and shakers to create soothing and familiar atmospheres. Their live shows are a truly wonderful experience!
ADAM BEATTIE (UK)
Scottish singer songwriter Adam Beattie has been playing and recording since 2003 and has released four studio albums; 'The Road Not Taken' (2016), 'Songs Of One Hundred Years' (2012), 'We'll Wave From The Shore' (2009) and 'Abu Bozy' (2006). He mixes “folk stews and dirty blues” mixes Celtic folk, American blues, country and early jazz balladry. Emotional but laced with wry humour, gentle but gutsy at the core, Adam’s beautiful melodies combine with inventive lyrics to tackle themes of life, love, death and hope. His exquisite voice and intricate guitar work fuse to create an intoxicating musical experience that will envelop you like a warm hug. His band 'The Consultants' is a fluid line up of musicians featuring piano, double bass and drums.
MOA BONES (GR)
Moa Bones is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Athens. He had an active presence in the Greek music scene as a singer and guitarist of Modrec. In 2011 he released his debut solo album “Aquarelles” οn the Greek label Restless Wind. The release was followed by numerous concerts in Greece and he was the opening act for Wovenhand in FUZZ Live Music Club, in October 2014. In May 2015 his second album “Spun”, was released by Inner Ear Records. He has also opened for Calexico. This year he will grace our Village Stage.
ATOUTALEME (CY)
Atoutaleme were formed in Limassol in 2013 featuring Panagiotis Georgiou on vocals and electric guitar, Stathis Hadjicharalambous on electric guitar and effects, Andreas Kerveros on bass and Alexander Papadopoulos on drums. The band has managed to create its own distinctive sound, using blues-derived grooves, dark riffs and a rock intensity delivered through lyrics which describe daily stories. Their newly released album, "The Live Sessions" will be performed on our Main Stage.
BROOKE SHARKEY (UK)
An introspective sound adorned with emotional vocals and sliding string sections that create a tense air of melancholy that few others can master so simply and so elegantly, Brooke Sharkey oozes a creativity that radiates emotion. Her vocal style switches effortlessly between lithely melodic and fiery, set against a deeply atmospheric musical backdrop, so comparisons with the likes of Kate Bush, Ane Brun and Cat Power are inevitable. What sets her apart is her songwriting, with its unique phrasing and sense of space. With four releases since 2010 under her belt, including the acclaimed ‘One Dress’ and ‘I Crossed the Line’, Brooke is ready to release her much anticipated, second, full album.
AWAKENED (GR)
Awakened is Dimitris Chatzizisis, a musician from Thessaloniki. He has been active in the Greek music scene in the last couple of years, with Awakened being one of his personal and favourite projects. At the festival he will be presenting original compositions of this project for guitar and voice, both old and new, using a loop station and various effects. His music is based on acoustic songwriting and incorporates elements of various styles and influences.
SUMMERTIME FAMILY (CY)
SMTF is a power trio from Limassol. Describing their music as positive rock, combining indie-pop and reggae tunes their funky drums, groovy bass lines, guitar riffs and powerful vocal melodies make their shows a blast every time they perform. The band features Andrey (vocals, guitar), Vlad (bass) and Stelios Stixx (drums).
SUPER STEREO (GR)
Super Stereo are a 5-piece band based in Thessaloniki. The band's main ingredients are sarcastic Greek lyrics and colourful orchestrations featuring alternative guitars, a powerful rhythm section, and vintage keys and theremin. All of the above are placed in melting pot moving between 70s psychedelia and 90s indie music. They have already released two albums and are now in the process of recording their third, which is meant for release sometime in 2016. Super Stereo are: Thanasis Dzingovic (vocals, guitar), Anthi Kyrkou (keys, percussion), Eva Ntourou (Keys, Theremin), Vasilis Papadopoulos (bass) and Dimitris Economou (drums).
MARLIA PROJECT (CY)
Marlia creates poems, songs, videos, classical music, melodies, beats, loops, patterns, acapella arrangements, food for thought, musical structures with percussion, and is open to experiment on different kinds of parameters around the material produced, whether it is sound, instrument, tuning, melody, rhythm or visuals.
BOOM PAM (ISR)
Tel Aviv based band Boom Pam was formed in 2003 and since then have toured the world over. The electric line up plays a mixture of Mediterranean, Rock and Surf music in the form of a unique quartet: Electric Guitar, Tuba, Keyboards and Drums. Just before hitting Womad 2016, they will join us on Fengaros' Main Stage to present songs from their three albums, combining magical Surf Guitars kicked by Tuba and heavy Drums on an ecstatic Mediterranean spicy trip.
RUMBA ATTACK (CY)
Rumba Attack returns to Fengaros Festival for round two! The trio will be showcasing brand new compositions from their upcoming debut album. With just two guitars and percussion, Rumba Attack have developed a distinctive Spanish Flamenco-Rumba style uniquely blending sounds from Rock, Blues & Bossanova. During their live shows they also perform vocal versions of favourite old Greek songs.
KUKUWA (CY)
KukuWa is a project born in Berlin in 2016 and it is based on Eleni Irakleous' compositions. Eleni's early music life was filled with classical music and 88 piano keys. This had a major influence on her compositions, but one can also hear some jazz elements blending along with a twist of tradition.
The need to grow as an artist brought the formation of KukuWa, along with the excellent musicians Jacob Przemus from Berlin on the drums and percussion, Jonathan Clayton from London on the cello, and Panagiotis Tsappis from Cyprus on the ney flute.
KukuWa is atmospheric, improvisational, lyrical, colourful and captures its listeners to a musical journey.
THE LADDERMAN (CY)
The Ladderman is a 4-piece, alternative rock group from Larnaca founded in 2011. Influenced by bands such as Queens of the Stone Age, The Beatles, Tool, Kyuss and many others, their sound is on the heavy side of alternative-rock, bringing in elements from the 90s grunge scene as well as having some stoner tendencies.Their debut album is currently in the process of being recorded and set to be released in the foreseeable future. Members are Andreas Matheou Guitar/vocals, Rolandis Lazides guitar/vocals, Iacovos Stylianides Drums/vocals and Stelios Mosfiliotis on the bass.
TSOP (GR)
Nikos Tsopoglou is a singer-songwriter from Thessaloniki, Greece.
He became known in the local music scene as a member of Deep in the Top and lately Balloon Over Glasgow. He began TSOP out of his need to experiment with different genres and seek his musical personality. TSOP's music is strongly influenced from Blues and Rock, but someone can also find plenty of atmospheric Folk and Country melodies as well as elements from the greek folklore music.
ECHO WANTS HER VOICE BACK (CY)
Echo Wants Her Voice Back is the heart and soul of Cypriot-born singer/songwriter Eleni Skarpari. Her experimental "Folk Noir" sound has been compared to PJ Harvey, Bjork, Radiohead, Lorde, Florence and The Machine and Kate Bush. Following her performance at South by Southwest Music Festival (SXSW) she will perform on the Fengaros Main Stage alongside Nicholas Filippou (drums), Andreas Matheou (bass), Nicholas Filippou (viola), Socrates Leptos (guitar) and Orestis Savva (guitar).
THE LOW SPARK (CY)
The Low Spark is a rock trio with a full and powerful sound, best known for high-energy live shows that present a fascinating hybrid of psych and prog rock with soul and blues.The trio consists of Lefteris Moumtzis on bass and vocals, Mario Michael on guitar and Stefanos Meletiou on drums.
THE NOISE FIGURES (GR)
The Noise Figures are a fuzz-rock duo based in Athens, blending psychedelic vocals with voluminous guitars and catchy melodies. Giorgos Nikas (drums, vocals) and Stamos Bamparis (guitar, b.vocals) have just completed two large European tours, as well as hundreds of concerts in all major Greek cities, and having shared the stage with big names such as Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Growlers, Japandroids, No Age, Dead Meadow, Sonic Jesus, and Sylvain Sylvain, they'll be cramping up the volume on the Fengaros Main Stage to perform some of the best songs of the year.
AVGI STAVROU (CY)
Avgi Stavrou has accomplished herself as a beautiful singer/songwriter despite her young age. She as been performing on various stages such as Scaraveo, Enallax, Svoura and Purple since the age of 15 and has written a soothing selection of songs which she will present on our Village Stage. Joining her on stage will be Memnon Aresti (guitar), Savvas Thoma (cajon) and Charis Christofides (guitar, bass).
KORASIES (CY)
Κορασιές made their first appearance in November 2015 and since then have begun performing in various events and festivals across the island. In every appearance, their goal is to create a friendly atmosphere and transmit the love they have for traditional music and dance to their audience. Moving from Cypriot and Greek rhythms and songs to the areas of Asia Minor, Thrace, Crete and the Aegean archipelago, their love for traditional music is penetrating and glows with every live performance.
