Sophie Fetokaki explores the qualities of prayer and ceremony in her music, drawing on folkloric songs and improvisation from far and wide. Her debut album Abundance was a kaleidoscopic tour de force of roots, folk, and reinvented classical songs. Abundance was praised by BBC presenter Sara Mohr-Pietsch as “one of my all-time favourite albums of 2021,” and was featured on BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio Cymru, KEXP Seattle, The Wire Magazine’s radio show, NTS Radio and Netil Radio, among others. While releasing the first record, Sophie was quietly crafting a new collection of original songs that reflect on the phenomenon of birth and the inevitability of death, turning to nature both for consolation and as a model of impermanence and change. She is currently playing this new material with long-time friend pianist Jochem Braat (NL). Together the duo gently expands the intimate universe of the songs, uplifting the decorated melodies on soft clouds of luscious harmonies.
