This year, Fengaros Festival is happy to team up with the European Food Safety Authority’s campaign #EUChooseSafeFood, run in Cyprus by the General State Laboratory. The campaign aims at encouraging European citizens to make informed decisions about everyday food choices and to explain the science behind EU food safety. Fengaros Festival draws thousands of music lovers over several days and we want participants to have an enjoyable and safe musical and culinary experience so in teaming up with EFSA we will carry info-posters on the campaign’s goals.

Fengaros Music Village’s programme of evening concerts is out! Workshops take place during the morning and afternoon hours on 21 - 26 July for registered participants, while the daily programme concludes with our series of free concerts, open to the public to attend in the evening. Fengaros Festival drops its official Tenth Anniversary Lineup

Fengaros is back to the ultra-unique village of Kato Drys this summer to celebrate its Tenth Anniversary with a bang.

We’re talking world-renowned trailblazers, more than 45 hours of music from live bands and DJ sets from across the globe, camping underneath the stars and a whole community of music-lovers all gathering together in the village.

Fengaros came out of a huge need to change things up in Cyprus. Each year, the village evolves, the community flourishes together with a common desire, and more of our favourite fresh artists hit the stage.

We’re returning to three days of wandering from stage to stage and secret locations under the summer night sky, and exploring winding village roads where undiscovered musical treasures call you to join in on the celebrations.

Fengaros Music Village welcomes its ninth edition, taking place on the 21st to the 26th July in the rejuvenating village of Kato Drys in the Larnaca district. Providing arts education through a series of nine music and theatre workshops, the summertime establishment nurtures a broad network of artists from Cyprus and beyond to gather in the village and foster creative collaboration. This edition’s workshops will be taught by industry professionals with expertise in a range of fields including drumming, orchestration and arrangement, jazz, and folk music traditions.

Attendees will be able to participate in their workshop of choice which will take place daily during the morning and afternoon hours, revitalising the quaint Cypriot village with music and creativity. Each evening free concerts will be available to the public, followed by open jam sessions at the village’s traditional cafe. Fengaros Music Village’s goal is to hone a long-lasting and resourceful community of artists to cultivate diverse creative and disseminative opportunities amongst one another.

APPLICATION FORM

Registration: Limited spaces are available for each workshop. Registrations are secured on a first come, first served basis upon payment of the participation fee via the sign-up page.

** All registrations secured and paid for, will include a personal, non-transferable three-day invitation to the tenth anniversary of Fengaros Festival as a gift.

Each Workshop Duration:
Attendees register for one workshop amounting to around 30 hours of morning and afternoon sessions.

Known for its eclecticism , Fengaros recently announced a host of artists joining its lineup for Fengaros' Tenth Anniversary celebrations.

The festival already announced Greek electro-pop artist Marina Satti as its very first headliner and is gearing up to announce more names before sharing its official lineup.

Nightstalker one of Europe's oldest and most legendary heavy, psychedelic rock bands will also headline Fengaros:

Larry Gus will be joining the ritual at our Tenth Anniversary this year. It might get kinda weird, grotesque yet lovable, psychedelic, and totally danceable.

A force to be reckoned with, Los Angeles-based producer St. Mary is setting a cinematic scene at our Tenth Anniversary to take audiences through a DJ set of dark melodicism, bass and trap.

Stand by for a trip through ambient sonorities and tenacious lyrics: London darlings of new post punk and cinematic rock, Electric Litany are celebrating our Tenth Anniversary with us.

Balkan beats, folklore, and a whole lotta big, fat grooves. Get ready to kick off your dancing shoes to Bulgarian ethnobass connoisseurs, Oratnitza blasting Fengaros into outer space.

Ten Years! We’ve all been waiting long enough to return to the ultra-unique village of Kato Drys and celebrate.

Greek electro pop sweetheart, Marina Satti is the festival's first headliner to be announced. Four years after the sweeping success of her single “Mantissa”, Marina Satti pivoted into even higher ground with a long list of shows throughout Europe before grabbing herself the feat as KEXP’s only Greek artist to have appeared in their live video sessions. She recently conquered the top of the YouTube charts yet again with her new song “PALI”. Audiences were quick to welcome her follow-up single “PONOS KRIFOS”, premiered by COLORS - a first for a Greek artist - with the very same enthusiasm before Satti seized yet another achievement as the first-ever Greek artist to premiere on NOWNESS with her video clip for the traditional track “YIATI POULI M’”. This is all just the beginning before Satti releases her much-anticipated album later this year.

Fengaros is returning to the ultra-unique village of Kato Drys in Cyprus’ Larnaca district after a two-year pause to celebrate its tenth anniversary on 28 - 30 July. Fengaros Music Village: Evening Programme

Building on the success of 2020’s sold-out music workshops and lectures, Fengaros Music Village returns to the quaint village of Kato Drys for its eighth edition, scheduled for 22 - 27 July 2021. Dedicated to providing opportunities for experienced professionals and music enthusiasts alike to collaborate, learn and perform with one another, Fengaros Music Village 2021 will be hosting a community of educators, artists and cultural supporters this summer. It is with great pleasure that Fengaros Music Village announces its evening programme. All concerts are free and open to the public.

The concerts will include performances by some of this year’s workshop instructors, some of them teaming to create one-off collaborations. Greek pianist, organist George Kontrafouris will join forces with guitarist Ermis Michail and drummer Stelios Xydias to play a selection of his compositions as well as other compositions written specifically for the traditional formation of the ‘Organ Trio’ (organ, guitar, drums). Audiences will also have the opportunity to watch performances by composer of contemporary Cypriot songs, Vassilis Philippou, as well as Greek composer, singer and violinist Fotis Siotas and Cypriot singer-songwriter Freedom Candlemaker amongst others.

Visitors should note that the programme will operate in line with government measures, including verifying the validity of SafePasses, contact tracing protocol, numbered and distanced seats, and a predetermined capacity limit.

Music for Two Flutes

Eva Stavrou and Demetris Yiasemides present selected duets for flute to take us on a musical journey in time, from the baroque period to the modern era.

George Demetriou

Nicosia-based songwriter George Demetriou will be performing new songs that combine the texture-oriented folk rock of his previous work with synthesizers, sampling and electronics, all while being dragged by wobbly and unsteady rhythms. Accompanied by Αngelos Vlamis, Yiannis Constantinou and Simos Tziakouris, the improvisational segments allow the songs to transform with each performance.

humayun ensemble

humayun ensemble focuses on the style of musical traditions of the East and interprets idioms from maqam music and its rich musical heritage. The ensemble features Christodoros Mnasonos on the oud, lavta, yayli tanbur, Nikolas Papadopoulos performing vocals and the violin, and Andreas Ioannou also on kanun and vocals.

Fotis Siotas

Renowned producer, composer, singer and violinist, Fotis Siotas will present a set featuring a selection of songs from his work Sotires and and his first solo record Ta Deftera, accompanying himself on the violin and guitar, with the aid of live looping.

Eurotoire (Location: TBA)

Eurotoire is co-creation and co-production scheme for twenty musicians from across Europe, meeting in Cyprus for their second time to record ten songs in Lefkara that the musicians have written together after meeting each other for the first time in Nicosia in June 2021 across five days of intensive songwriting sessions. The ten songs will be released on their upcoming album on Louvana Records who is also responsible for the coordination of the project.

Metaxas

Metaxas will give one of his very rare performances at this year’s Fengaros Music Village. He performs with a unique sense of subtlety, versatility and intimacy. Channeling his Folk & Americana influences, he instills a raw emotion onto every vocal line, blending old with new. In this intimate solo set he will be accompanying himself on acoustic guitar.

Hammond Organ Trio

For the first time in Cyprus, George Kontrafouris presents Hammond Organ Trio. In the tradition of the classic organ trio (organ, guitar, drums) Kontrafouris will present his own pieces as well as pieces by Dr. Lonnie Smith, accompanied by Ermis Michail on electric guitar and Stelios Xydias on drums.

Mály

Inspired by the sounds of Cyprus found in speech and music, Mály presents compositions performed on electric guitar, percussion, ney and voice. The music of Vassilis Philippou (voice, percussion, ney, compositions) and Odysseas Toumazou (guitars, compositions) is deeply influenced by their love for Cypriot culture, and their collaboration focuses on this part of their creative path.

Freedom Candlemaker

Freedom Candlemaker constructs a celestial journey with his fusion of dreamy, esoteric pop with nu-folk, psychedelic and shimmery soundscapes. In one of his rare appearances, Freedom Candlemaker presents pieces from his discography, while he will focus mostly on brand new songs that he is currently working on from his upcoming album, with the participation of guest musicians.

Akamotoi Brass Band (Location: TBA)

Loud, full-forced, and emphatic, the fifteen-piece brass band joined by a group of percussionists will present a playful set of Balkan tunes, marching rhythms and bold, boisterous melodies.

Κάθε βράδυ στην αμφιθεατρική πλατεία του χωριού (Village Stage) θα πραγματοποιούνται δωρεάν συναυλίες. Οι πόρτες θα ανοίγουν 30 λεπτά πριν την ώρα έναρξης της συναυλίας. Στις συναυλίες θα τηρούνται τα ακόλουθα μέτρα:

α) Ο κάθε επισκέπτης θα δίνει το όνομα του και το τηλέφωνο του στην είσοδο για πιθανή ιχνηλάτηση κρουσμάτων κορονοϊού.

β) Οι θέσεις στο χώρο θα είναι αριθμημένες και θα διατηρούνται αποστάσεις μεταξύ των προκαθορισμένων θέσεων.

γ) Σε καμία περίπτωση το κοινό δεν θα υπερβαίνει το προκαθορισμένο όριο επισκεπτών.

Doors will open half an hour before the start of the show. The following measures will be adhered to:

a) Each spectator will provide their name and phone number at the entrance for potential contact tracing protocol.

b) The seats will be numbered and appropriate distancing measures between each seat will be followed.

c) Under no circumstances will the audience exceed the predetermined capacity limit.

Our series of workshops, lectures and concerts will be taking place as scheduled this year! We’re dedicated to providing opportunities where experienced arts professionals and emerging musicians and artists alike can get together and learn from each other. We have worked hard to adapt and unearth ways to implement the 7th edition of Fengaros Music Village and all that it stands for.

Acknowledging the financial difficulties that musicians and artists are facing during these times, we, along with the gracious help of our longtime sponsors and collaborators, are delighted to be providing a significantly discounted participation fee from €180.00 to €95.00, plus important discounts to all agrotouristic lodges that participants can book through Fengaros Music Village. Together with our new food vendor, we have also arranged for the 5 lunch meals to be discounted from €40.00 to €36.00.

With the valuable assistance of the Community Council of Kato Drys and in line with government announcements and measures on gatherings and classrooms, Fengaros Music Village will do all that is possible to provide a healthy environment during workshops, lectures and concerts plus an open-air camping site that registered participants can enjoy.

We’re grateful for the support, cooperation and dedication to our venture from the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth, the U.S. Embassy in Cyprus, the Embassy of Spain in Cyprus, our partner hoteliers of Kato Drys and Lefkara, our catering providers To Kouzinaki tis Stavroulas, and the Community Council of Kato Drys. As many of you may know, various events throughout the world have been postponed to 2021. We’ve been watching the current situation and the worldwide events surrounding COVID-19 very closely and have been taking a number of matters into account.

Fengaros is an organisation that prides itself in providing a positive experience that attendees and artists alike can look forward to. We are proud to have been the first organisation on the island to spearhead the combination of arts and culture with tourism through revitalising a traditional Cypriot village. We value the health and safety of everyone that comes to the festival - including our brilliant sound, light and stage designers and technicians, artists, crew members, bartenders and food vendors, the hugely gracious village’s inhabitants and most importantly our audience. We are taking everyone’s situation into consideration.

Many plans for Fengaros Festival 2020 are dependent on various other factors such as flight restrictions and capacity restrictions. With the huge amount of uncertainty regarding large international events in Europe for summer 2020, we are unable to halt pre-production for a large event such as Fengaros Festival. We certainly don’t want to compromise the quality of everything that the festival provides during our three days in the village.

Fengaros Music Village is held for the sixth consecutive year at Kato Drys village in the Larnaca district and consists of eleven music, theater and radio production workshops, as well as an artist residency. Artists from Cyprus, Greece, England, Germany and Holland will conduct the workshops, proposing alternative methods of learning and creating.

The event has become an institution and is one of the most important meetings of musicians from Cyprus and abroad, on the island. During its years of existence, the Fengaros Music Village has functioned as the "birthplace" of many musical (and not only) collaborations and projects.

The workshops will take place daily during the morning and afternoon hours, with evening concerts and presentations, open to the public, will complete the daily schedule.

Goals of Fengaros Music Village:

- The implementation of educational, interactive workshops, instructed by artists of international caliber in the areas of modern and traditional creation. The themed sections of each workshop intend to approach the arts in a broad, yet effective way, whilst concentrating on original and innovative aspects of artistic development.

- The encouragement of both organised and spontaneous performances executed by students and instructors.

Goals of Fengaros Music Village:

The implementation of educational, interactive workshops, instructed by artists of international caliber in the areas of modern and traditional creation. The themed sections of each workshop intend to approach the arts in a broad, yet effective way, whilst concentrating on original and innovative aspects of artistic development.

The encouragement of both organised and spontaneous performances executed by students and instructors.

Το Μουσικό Χωριό Φέγγαρος διεξάγεται για έκτη συνεχή χρονιά, στο χωριό Κάτω Δρυς της επαρχίας Λάρνακας και περιλαμβάνει έντεκα εργαστήρια μουσικής, θεάτρου, ραδιοφωνικής παραγωγής, καθώς και ένα artist residency. Καλλιτέχνες από Κύπρο, Ελλάδα, Γερμανία, Αγγλία και Ολλανδία, θα εισηγηθούν και θα συντονίσουν τα εργαστήρια μέσω εναλλακτικών μεθόδων εκμάθησης και δημιουργίας.

Η διοργάνωση έχει γίνει πλέον θεσμός και είναι μια από τις σημαντικότερες συνευρέσεις μουσικών από την Κύπρο και το εξωτερικό, στο νησί. Μέσα στα χρόνια της διεξαγωγής του, το Μουσικό Χωριό Φέγγαρος έχει λειτουργήσει σαν η “γενέτειρα” πολλών μουσικών (και όχι μόνο) συνεργασιών και πρότζεκτ.

Τα εργαστήρια θα πραγματοποιούνται καθημερινά κατά τις πρωινές και απογευματινές ώρες, ενώ βραδινές συναυλίες και παρουσιάσεις, ανοιχτές προς το κοινό, θα ολοκληρώνουν το ημερήσιο πρόγραμμα.

Στόχοι του Μουσικού Χωριού Φέγγαρος:

Η υλοποίηση εκπαιδευτικών διαδραστικών εργαστηρίων, των οποίων εισηγητές αποτελούν καλλιτέχνες με αναγνωρισμένο έργο στα πλαίσια της σύγχρονης και παραδοσιακής δημιουργίας. Τα εργαστήρια αποβλέπουν σε μια ευρεία και ουσιαστική προσέγγιση των επιμέρους θεματικών τους, ενώ την ίδια στιγμή εμβαθύνουν σε πρωτότυπους τομείς καλλιτεχνικής ανάπτυξης.

Η προμελετημένη, αλλά και η αυθόρμητη εμπλοκή των σπουδαστών και εισηγητών στην ερμηνεία μουσικών ή άλλων έργων.

Η επωφελής ανταλλαγή εμπειριών και ιδεών μεταξύ καλλιτεχνών, φιλότεχνων και συμμετεχόντων.

Η δημιουργία μιας υβριδικής καλλιτεχνικής κοινότητας, τα μέλη της οποίας θα χαρακτηρίζει η αλληλεγγύη, τόσο σε επίπεδο συλλογικής δημιουργίας, όσο και στην παραγωγή / διανομή καλλιτεχνικού υλικού.
