Through this workshop we will get an insight into polyrhythms and poly pulses, based on techniques found in Karnatic music. We will be introduced to Konakol, the vocal technique used to execute polyrhythms, get to know various rhythmical patterns and finally start blending patterns aiming to get a basic knowledge on how polyrhythms work as well as how they can be integrated in the music we are making. Open to musicians of various levels.

Μέσα από αυτό το εργαστήρι, θα αποκτήσουμε μια εικόνα για τους πολυρυθμούς και τους πολυπαλμούς, βασισμένοι σε τεχνικές που συναντώνται στην Καρνατική μουσική. Θα μελετήσουμε Konakol, την φωνητική τεχνική που χρησιμοποιείται για την εκτέλεση πολυρυθμών, θα γνωρίσουμε διάφορα ρυθμικά μοτίβα και τέλος θα ξεκινήσουμε την ανάμειξη μοτίβων με στόχο την απόκτηση βασικών γνώσεων για το πώς λειτουργούν οι πολυρυθμοί, καθώς και για το πώς μπορούν να ενσωματωθούν στη μουσική που δημιουργούμε. Ανοιχτό σε μουσικούς διαφόρων επιπέδων.

Andys Skordis (Cyprus, 1983) is a composer of contemporary music, with special emphasis on large scale works, music theatre and site specific pieces. Skordis studied composition at Berklee College of Music and at the Conservatorium Van Amsterdam, with additional studies in Karnatic music with Dr Rafael Reina and in Balinese Gamelan at ISI Denpasar in Bali. His work list spans over 80 works including operas, orchestral and chamber pieces, vocal works and Gamelan music. In addition, he has created various music theatre performances in site specific locations like quarries, temples, abandoned buildings, forests, etc, which he conducted and directed. His music has been performed worldwide by professional and amateur ensembles, and has received international recognition through prizes including the BUMA Toonzetters prize, the Berlin Opera Prize, the Black Pencil Prize, the Fedora prize, the 1st prize at the international composition competition for Piano quintet, the 1st prize in Ballet orchestral competition, and more. Besides composing he is the founder of the contemporary music ensemble “PATSIAOURA”, he performs with his band “Ogmios”, and he presents workshops and masterclasses in advanced rhythm in various institutions worldwide.

Ο Άντης Σκορδής (Κύπρος, 1983) είναι συνθέτης σύγχρονης μουσικής, με εργογραφία που συμπεριλαμβάνει όπερες, συμφωνικά έργα, μουσική δωματίου, κομμάτια Γκάμελαν, μουσική για θέατρο, χορό και ταινίες μικρού μήκους. Σπούδασε σύνθεση στο Berklee College of Music και στο Κονσερβατόριο του Άμστερνταμ, με επιπλέον σπουδές στην Καρνατική μουσική και στην Μπαλινέζικη Γκάμελαν στο ISI Denpasar στο Μπαλί. Εχει παρουσιάσει έργα του σε φεστιβάλ συγχρονης μουσικής όπως Holland Festival, November Music, Gaudeamus muziekweek, Bali Arts Festival, CTM festival, Unsafe and sounds, Symphony for Asia, κ.α, και έχει λάβει αναθέσεις από Neukollner Opera, Φεστιβάλ Αθηνών&Επιδαύρου, Concertgebouw, Gettysburg Symphony, Third Coast Percussion group, Orkest de Ereprijs, Συμφωνική ορχήστρα Κύπρου κτλ. Η μουσική του έχει λάβει διακρίσεις όπως το Buma Toonzetters Prize, το Berlin Opera Prize, το Black Pencil Prize καθώς και βραβεία από το ISCM, Fedora platform, Third Coast Percussion group, Συμφωνική Ορχήστρα Κύπρου, κ.α. Πέραν της σύνθεσης είναι ιδρυτής του σχήματος σύγχρονης μουσικής “ΠΑΤΣΙΑΟΥΡΑ” και παίζει κιθάρα και κρουστά με την μπάντα του “Όγμιος”.

Refundable cancellations or change of selected workshops will not be accepted beyond the 16th of June 2026.*

30+ hours registrations will include a 50% discount for one non-transferable three-day ticket to Fengaros Festival 2026
