About Michalis Tterlikkas
Michalis Tterlikkas was born in the still occupied village of Kapouti, Morphou in 1955, where he lived up until the Turkish invasion of 1974. He graduated from the First Gymnasium of Morphou. He studied electrical engineering in Athens, and ever since 1980 he lives and creates in Cyprus. His relationship with singing began from a very young age.
In 1979, while he was still a university student, he met the late poet Andrea Mappoura and recorded three cassettes of ‘tsiattismata’ (traditional Cypriot rhymes) with him.
Between 1981 and 1983, he attended lessons on Byzantine music taught by researcher Archonta Protopsalti and performer of traditional cypriot music, Theodoulos Kallinikos.
In 1983 he was inducted in the refugee folklore group ‘Oi Adoulotoi’ - Siakalli and sang for a few years, accompanied by well-known folk instrumentalists like Georgios Averof, Michalis Poullos, Demetris Katsaris, Christodoulos Pipis and more.
Around 1985 he began having concerts of traditional Cypriot music on a personal level with his aforementioned collaborators. At the same time, he began his research project on musical tradition by recording elderly people throughout free Cyprus and thus slowly creating an important archive.
Since 1990 he has been leading the music group ‘Mousa’. He has performed in various radio and TV shows, both in Cyprus and internationally. He has also performed in many traditional music festivals, as well as other international events. He has also taken part in multiple conferences in Cyprus and abroad. His most recent venture was running a workshop in Fengaros Music Village 2023 and performing at Fengaros Festival 2023 with Fuzz Bus.
In August 2017 he was honoured by I.G.F - World Folklore Union with the I.G.F GOLD STAR EX OSCAR for his overall work on promoting the values of traditional folklore culture on an international level. His credentials include four personal record releases, as well as guest participation in another ten projects. He has also published a poetry collection ‘The color of sunrise is sleeping alone” (Το χρώμαν της ανατολής τζ̆οιμάται μανιχόν του’).
Since 1987, and up until today, he has also been a significant presence in theatre, film and TV as an amateur actor. He was nominated for supporting actor at the Thessaloniki Film Festival in 2006 for his role as a poet-fisherman in the Panikkos Chrysanthou film ‘Akamas’.
Since 2014 he has been involved in writing scripts for period TV series and theatre pieces in the Cypriot dialect. His plays and adaptations/translations have been staged by professional theatre companies in Cyprus.
Μιχάλης Ττερλικκάς - Βιογραφικό
Ερμηνευτής - ερευνητής παραδοσιακής μουσικής της Κύπρου.
Ο Μιχάλης Ττερλικκάς γεννήθηκε στο, κατεχόμενο σήμερα, χωριό Καπούτι της περιοχής Μόρφου το 1955, όπου και έζησε μέχρι την τουρκική εισβολή του 1974. Αποφοίτησε από το Α΄ Γυμνάσιο Μόρφου. Σπούδασε ηλεκτρονικά στην Αθήνα, και από το 1980 ζει και δημιουργεί στην Κύπρο. Η σχέση του με το τραγούδι ξεκινά από την παιδική του ηλικία.
Το 1979, ενώ ήταν ακόμα φοιτητής, γνώρισε τον αείμνηστο ποιητάρη, Αντρέα Μαππούρα και ηχογράφησε μαζί του τρεις κασέτες με τσ̆ιαττίσματα. Μεταξύ 1981 και 1983, παρακολούθησε κάποια μαθήματα βυζαντινής μουσικής με δάσκαλο τον Άρχοντα Πρωτοψάλτη, ερευνητή και ερμηνευτή της παραδοσιακής μουσικής της Κύπρου, Θεόδουλο Καλλίνικο.
Το 1983 εντάχθηκε στον προσφυγικό λαογραφικό όμιλο “Οι Αδούλωτοι” – Σ̆ιακαλλή και τραγούδησε για μερικά χρόνια, συνοδευόμενος από γνωστούς λαϊκούς οργανοπαίχτες. όπως ο
Γεώργιος Αβέρωφ, ο Μιχάλης Πούλλος, ο Δημήτρης Κατσαρής, ο Χριστόδουλος Πίπης, κ.α. Γύρω στο 1985, άρχισε να δίνει συναυλίες παραδοσιακής μουσικής της Κύπρου σε προσωπικό επίπεδο με συνεργάτες τους πιο πάνω. Παράλληλα, άρχισε το ερευνητικό του έργο, καταγράφοντας, από ηλικιωμένους σε όλη την ελεύθερη Κύπρο, τη μουσική μας παράδοση δημιουργώντας, βήμα με βήμα, ένα σημαντικό αρχείο.
Από το 1990 ηγείται της μουσικής παρέας «Μούσα». Έλαβε μέρος σε αρκετά ραδιοφωνικά και τηλεοπτικά προγράμματα στην Κύπρο και στο εξωτερικό. Συμμετείχε επίσης σε πολλά φεστιβάλ παραδοσιακής μουσικής, καθώς και σε άλλες διεθνείς διοργανώσεις. Έκανε, επίσης, εισηγήσεις σε διάφορα συνέδρια, καθώς και εργαστήρια, στην Κύπρο και στο εξωτερικό. Η πιο πρόσφατη συμμετοχή του ήταν στο Μουσικό Χωριό και στο Fengaros Festival 2023 με εργαστήρια και συναυλία με τους Fuzz Bus.
Τον Αύγουστο του 2017 τιμήθηκε από την I.G.F - World Folklore Union με το I.G.F GOLD STAR EX OSCAR για το συνολικό του έργο για την προώθηση των αξιών της παραδοσιακής λαογραφικής κουλτούρας σε διεθνές επίπεδο.
Έχει στο ενεργητικό του 4 προσωπικές δισκογραφικές εκδόσεις, φιλική συμμετοχή σε άλλες 10 και μερικά single. Εξέδωσε επίσης μια ποιητική συλλογή «Το χρώμαν της ανατολής τζ̆οιμάται μανιχόν του…»
